Community platforms

Lendecon, a community-based equipment rental platform, is the newest business to be listed on the OKGA’s Business Networking Hub. A start-up developed by engineering graduate, Dylan Pathirana (OKG18), Lendecon has been designed to promote a circular economy, while reducing waste and strengthening community bonds.

Before establishing Lendecon, Dylan says he would buy the cheapest and lowest quality item at the shops to fulfil a short-term need.

“My garage is now full of tools I’ve hardly used, and these will likely get thrown out in our next big clean-up. This isn’t sustainable,” Dylan said.

“If you have equipment lying around gathering dust, you can list it on Lendecon for free. Then, when you need something, you can rent rather than buy, and save your garage from getting clogged up.”

To gain feedback on his early-stage venture, Dylan is offering Old Boys a discount to participate in a trial of the platform. Enter OKGA for a 15 per cent discount on borrowing an item.

To hear more about the platform, listen to Dylan’s recent interview on the Curiosity Crisis Podcast.
