Alex Shaw has recorded some stellar running performances over the past few months. In the Athletics NSW Half Marathon State Championships on 25 August, held on the streets of Homebush, Alex claimed a podium finish, crossing the line in 69:30 to take 3rd place. Alex was back in action at the Melbourne Marathon on 13 October. Competing in an elite field featuring multiple Olympians, Alex clocked an impressive 2:26:22, finishing 17th overall, in the famous surrounds of the MCG, with his family there in support. The result earned him the 37th fastest Australian marathon time this year and the 4th fastest by a New South Welshman. These results also marked a satisfying comeback after a disappointing 2023 Berlin Marathon. "It's always satisfying to get a good result on the board, particularly after a poor one. Training for a marathon isn't quick or easy, so to see the work payoff is rewarding," Alex said. Looking ahead, Alex is shifting his focus back to the track for the 2024/25 summer season and targeting faster times over 3000 and 5000 metres. He then plans to build up his mileage again for another marathon in the second half of 2025. Alex credits his success to the unwavering support of his wife, coach, training partners, family, and close friends. "They make it possible for me to train every day. It's something I try never to take for granted."
