Evening with John Baker (OKG68)

Following a welcome from Headmaster Scott James, the OKGA / KGS inaugural Evening with an Author featured lively storytelling, as John Baker (OKG68), author of Stalin's Wine Cellar, shared his tale of intriguing adventure with facilitator, Scott Whitmont (OKG78). Scott invited John to recount some pivotal moments in the adventure which led the former wine merchant to write his book, with co-author Nick Place. The animated conversation brought John’s story to life, with one special highlight for the audience of Old Boys, parents and students, being the chance to see an 1870s bottle of Château d'Yquem up close. The event also provided an opportunity for attendees to chat with John, as many chose to purchase Stalin's Wine Cellar either for themselves and/or as a gift at the end of the event. With feedback from attendees overwhelmingly positive, the stage has been set for us to host future author events at the School, as we help instil, maintain or reignite a love of reading in the Knox Community. |
