Old Boys in winning solar race car team
Wednesday, 22 November 2023
Congratulations to the two Old Boys, Luke Tedesco (OKG20) and Jamie Cerezo (OKG19), who are members of UNSW Sunswift Racing - the winning team in this year’s Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, a race which attracts international competitors.

As Chief Strategist of Sunswift 7, Luke managed the operations and efficiency of UNSW’s solar electric vehicle throughout the 3000km course from Darwin to Adelaide. Jamie, an undergraduate mechanical engineer, is a member of Sunswift’s Powertrain Department.

As reported in Sunday’s SMH, since 1997 students from UNSW have built iterations of Sunswift to contest the six-day solar car race.

“After 26 years, 11 attempts and seven design iterations, the Sunswift 7 finally won the race, smashing the next-nearest competitor and becoming the first Australian car to win its category.”

Luke said: “For me personally, as the strategist, it was challenging, with bushfires and headwinds making progress difficult, but also rewarding to operate a prototype car in that environment.”
