Congratulations Charlie Anderson (OKG22). Charlie was an integral part of the World Champion Australian U19 Cricket Team which was victorious in the ICC World Cup Final over India in South Africa last month. Charlie, a right-arm medium fast bowler, played in four of Australia’s five group stage matches in the lead-up to the finals. In his first match, he was deemed “unlucky not to strike in his 0-13 from five overs”. In match two again Zimbabwe, Charlie took 1/7 and a catch, and he lead the charge against the West Indies with 2/12 before a storm stopped play. Summing up how Australia won the World Cup for Cricket.com.au, Louis Cameron wrote “swing bowler Charlie Anderson also featured as a new-ball threat”. Team Captain Hugh Weibgen also praised Charlie as a member of the team’s fast-bowling quartet (along with Callum Vidler, Tom Straker and Mahli Beardman), predicting they will "go a long way" in their respective careers. Charlie’s father, Cameron Anderson (OKG90) travelled to South Africa with his wife Amy and son Henry (Year 12) and was thrilled to see Charlie and his team mates lift the World Cup at the end of the tournament. “They played hard but what was most evident was the way they worked together as a team and seemed to really enjoy themselves,” Cameron said. Charlie Anderson, a Tier 1 Scholar with NSW Cricket, made his First Grade debut for Northern Districts in February 2022 and his Australian U19 debut against England during the 2023/24 season.
